Inside the workshop

Why Kia owners come to us

Photos from the floor on Kahikatea Drive. Same team, same hoists, same standards every job.

  • Cerato GT seven-speed dual-clutch shudder The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in the Cerato GT can develop a low-speed shudder or hesitation. We read clutch adaptation data with the correct scan tool, reset the learning, or quote clutch pack work where it is genuinely worn.
  • Sorento and Sportage diesel injector and DPF issues The 2.0L and 2.2L CRDi diesels can develop injector wear and DPF blockages, especially on short-trip vehicles. We diagnose injectors on our calibrated bench as Bosch and Delphi agents and run forced regeneration in the workshop.
  • EGR carbon build-up and limp mode Carbon clogging the EGR valve and intake on diesel models causes rough running, lost power and limp mode. We carbon clean the EGR system and intake tract to restore proper running.

Common Kia issues we see

The patterns we have noticed across Hamilton Kia owners, and how we handle them.

Cerato GT seven-speed dual-clutch shudder

The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in the Cerato GT can develop a low-speed shudder or hesitation. We read clutch adaptation data with the correct scan tool, reset the learning, or quote clutch pack work where it is genuinely worn.

Sorento and Sportage diesel injector and DPF issues

The 2.0L and 2.2L CRDi diesels can develop injector wear and DPF blockages, especially on short-trip vehicles. We diagnose injectors on our calibrated bench as Bosch and Delphi agents and run forced regeneration in the workshop.

EGR carbon build-up and limp mode

Carbon clogging the EGR valve and intake on diesel models causes rough running, lost power and limp mode. We carbon clean the EGR system and intake tract to restore proper running.

Idle stop-go battery failure

The ISG battery on Sportage and Cerato fails earlier than a standard battery, often showing as a stop-start system that no longer works. We test, replace and program the new battery so the system works as intended.

Theta II petrol engine top-end noise

Some 2.0L and 2.4L Theta II engines develop a ticking on cold start. We diagnose the cause, advise honestly, and quote repair or replacement only when it is genuinely needed.

Cooling system wear on higher-mileage models

Kia cooling systems need scheduled coolant renewal. We check the thermostat, hoses, radiator and water pump so the engine holds the right temperature.

More about Kia servicing in Hamilton

A workshop perspective on what's involved, how we run the job, and what shapes the final cost.

Why Hamilton Kia owners come to Turbo & Diesel

Plenty of general workshops can change the oil on a Sportage but send the diesel and dual-clutch work away. We do it all in-house, with manufacturer-level scan tools and our own calibrated fuel injection test room. You deal directly with the technician working on your car, get a straight answer on what needs doing, and are not paying twice to fix the same fault.

We are MTA-aligned, and servicing here keeps your Kia warranty intact under New Zealand consumer law.

Kia servicing and repairs we handle

We cover the Gamma and Nu petrol engines, the CRDi diesel engines, and the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission across the full Kia range.

CRDi diesel work (Sorento, Sportage):

  • Hard starting, smoke, low power or limp mode: injectors bench-tested for flow and back-leak on our calibrated Bosch and Delphi equipment
  • High-pressure pump diagnosis
  • Carbon-clogged EGR valves and intake tracts cleaned
  • DPF forced regeneration on short-trip diesel vehicles

Dual-clutch and petrol work:

  • Cerato GT seven-speed dual-clutch: clutch adaptation data read with the correct scan tool, learning reset or clutch packs replaced when genuinely worn
  • ISG stop-go battery replacement and programming on Sportage and Cerato
  • Theta II 2.0L and 2.4L top-end noise diagnosis
  • Cooling system work and cambelt or timing chain replacement
  • Brakes, suspension, steering and WOF inspections with any needed work done in the same visit
How we service your Kia

Call (07) 847 3339 or book online. Tell us the model, the engine, and what you are noticing: a DPF light, a shudder pulling away, a stop-start system that has stopped working, or a service due. If there is a fault to chase, the scan tool comes out first and we log live data on a road test. We agree the work and cost with you before we start, so there are no surprises.

What Kia servicing costs

Scheduled services are quoted upfront. Repair costs vary. Key factors:

  • Parts availability: common Kia service parts are well stocked; some diesel injection and dual-clutch components have longer lead times
  • Severity: one worn injector is a very different job from a full set; a DPF caught early costs far less than one fully blocked
  • Platform: some models need more dismantling to reach the same part

For a firm quote, call (07) 847 3339 or use the contact form.

Kia servicing across Hamilton and the Waikato

Our workshop is on Kahikatea Drive in Frankton, a few minutes from the Hamilton ring road. Kia work comes to us from across the region:

  • Sportage and Sorento owners from Cambridge and Te Awamutu
  • Cerato and Carnival drivers from Morrinsville and Huntly
  • Family SUVs from Ngaruawahia and out toward Raglan

The workshop is open Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

FAQs

Common Questions

Everything you might want to know before booking.

How much does Kia charge for a full service?

We do not publish a set price because a full service depends on the model and engine, whether it is petrol or CRDi diesel, the parts and fluids your Kia is due, and anything found on inspection. A Sorento diesel differs from a Picanto. Call (07) 847 3339 with your model and we will quote your full service up front.

Does my Kia have to be serviced by Kia?

No. Your Kia does not have to be serviced by a Kia dealer for the warranty to stay valid. Under New Zealand consumer law, logbook servicing by any qualified workshop using the correct parts and procedures keeps your factory warranty intact. We are MTA-aligned, service to Kia schedules, and record every service properly.

Which Kia engine to stay away from?

The one to be aware of is the older Theta II 2.0L and 2.4L petrol engine, mainly 2011 to 2012 builds, where manufacturing debris caused knocking and oil consumption on some units. Many were recalled and repaired. Plenty of these engines run fine, so a pre-purchase check is the sensible move rather than avoiding Kia altogether.

What are the most common Kia problems?

Reported issues include engine knocking and oil consumption on certain older Theta II engines, EGR carbon build-up and DPF blockage on diesels, ISG battery failure affecting the stop-start, and dual-clutch shudder on worn clutches. Most are well understood and fixable. We diagnose the specific vehicle rather than assume the worst.

What are common Kia service issues?

Common things we see are squealing brakes pointing to worn pads, grinding noises that can mean transmission or wheel bearing wear, and rattles or clunks that often trace to suspension. A new noise is worth checking early. We scan and inspect the vehicle, find the real cause, and tell you what genuinely needs doing.

Is Kia easy to repair?

Kia vehicles are generally straightforward and well engineered, and basic upkeep is manageable for owners. The diesel injection and dual-clutch systems do need proper scan tools and equipment. We handle all of it in-house, so whether it is a simple service or a complex fault, your Kia is sorted in one workshop.

How often should I service my Kia?

Most petrol Kias are due every 12 months or 15,000 km, whichever comes first. A diesel Sorento or Sportage worked hard is better on a 10,000 km interval. We set a schedule around how you actually drive rather than a generic number, and remind you when it is due.

Can you service the Cerato GT dual-clutch transmission?

Yes. We can read clutch adaptation data, reset the learning, and replace clutch packs when they are worn. Dual-clutch transmissions benefit from regular fluid service to keep them shifting cleanly, and we use the correct specification fluid.

Why is my Kia dual-clutch shuddering at low speed?

A shudder when pulling away in a dual-clutch Kia is often the clutch adaptation drifting out, or genuine clutch pack wear. We scan the transmission, read the adaptation values, and tell you whether a reset will fix it or whether the clutch pack needs replacing.

Do you work on Kia CRDi diesel engines?

Yes. Diesel Sorento and Sportage are everyday work for us. As authorised Bosch and Delphi agents we have the scan tools and a calibrated injector bench in our own fuel injection test room, so injector, pump and DPF faults are diagnosed properly rather than guessed.

Why is my Kia stop-start system not working?

The most common cause is a worn ISG battery, the dedicated battery for the idle stop-go system, which fails earlier than a standard battery. We test it, replace it with the correct unit, and program it so the stop-start system works as intended again.

Do you do WOF inspections for Kia vehicles?

Yes. We carry out WOF inspections and can handle any repairs needed to pass in the same visit, so you are not driving back and forth between a tester and a workshop. Book it in with your service to save a trip.
