Why Choose Us

Why Hamilton trusts us with full vehicle service

A real service, not just an oil change

Engine oil, fuel, air and cabin filters, every fluid, brakes and a full inspection, the complete logbook job rather than a quick oil swap.

New-vehicle warranty servicing

Logbook servicing with manufacturer-spec oils and OEM-grade service parts that keep the new-car warranty intact, with the logbook stamped every time.

Manufacturer-spec oils, every time

Toyota TGMO 0W-20, Mazda Skyactiv-D, low-SAPS diesel oils, the correct grade for your engine, not a generic substitute.

WOF combined visit

Book the WOF and the service in the same visit and we cover both, most inspection items overlap, so it is the most efficient way to handle both.

Twenty years on Kahikatea Drive

Same workshop, same MTA standards, same technicians who service the same vehicles year after year.

Everything you should know about full vehicle service

A workshop perspective on what's involved, how we run the job, and what shapes the final cost.

Why a full service is not just an oil change

This is the single most common misunderstanding we see in the workshop. A driver books in for an oil change, thinks the vehicle has been serviced, and drives away with a fuel filter that should have been replaced two intervals ago, a cabin filter packed with leaf litter, and brake pads nobody has measured.

An oil change is one task. A full vehicle service is the complete logbook job:

  • Engine oil and oil filter
  • Fuel filter, air filter and cabin filter where due
  • Every fluid checked and topped
  • Brakes and suspension inspected on a hoist
  • Manufacturer-level diagnostic scan

The items you cannot see from the driver's seat are exactly the ones that quietly turn into a breakdown or a failed WOF.

What our full vehicle service covers

The full vehicle service is a single, comprehensive job and we do not water it down.

Oil and filters:

  • Engine oil drained warm so contaminants flow out; OEM-spec oil filter fitted with a fresh sealing gasket; sump drain plug washer renewed
  • Refill to the manufacturer-specified viscosity, performance grade and capacity
  • Fuel filter inspected and replaced where due; water trap drained on diesels
  • Air filter checked; cabin filter checked and renewed if choked
  • Every essential fluid checked and topped: brake, transmission, coolant, power steering and washer
  • Antifreeze concentration tested with a refractometer to confirm winter protection

Multi-point inspection (wheels off):

  • Brake pads measured; discs assessed for runout and lip
  • Suspension bushes, ball joints and tie rod ends checked for play
  • Drive belt inspected for cracks and tension
  • Exhaust checked for leaks and mounting integrity
  • Tyres measured for tread depth; sidewalls inspected for damage
  • Every light, indicator, brake light and reversing camera tested

Scan and reset:

  • Manufacturer-level scan tool reads stored and pending fault codes across every module; freeze-frame data reviewed
  • Service interval indicator reset

Diesel-specific items (fuel filter water drain, DPF differential pressure check and EGR position) are all covered on a diesel service. On request, we combine the visit with a WOF so both are completed in one drop-off.

New-vehicle maintenance and warranty cover

If your vehicle is still under the manufacturer's warranty, the service has to be done a particular way to keep that cover intact. The law does not require you to service at the dealer, but the manufacturer does require the published schedule to be followed using oils and parts that meet OEM specification.

We carry out new-vehicle logbook servicing for all common makes:

  • Correct manufacturer-spec oil at the right viscosity and performance grade
  • OEM-grade oil, fuel, air and cabin filters
  • Every scheduled item completed in full
  • Logbook stamped at the end

That stamped record is what protects you if a powertrain claim ever arises. The manufacturer will ask to see it. The result is a warranty-compliant service done by qualified MTA-aligned technicians, usually at less cost than the dealer. Bring the logbook and we will work through the exact schedule for your make, model, year and engine.

How a full service works at our Frankton workshop

Phone (07) 847 3339 or use the contact form. We confirm the manufacturer-specified oil and service parts for your exact vehicle before the booking is locked in, so the right oil and filters are on the shelf when you arrive.

Drop in the morning and leave the keys. The vehicle goes onto the hoist, oil is drained warm, the oil filter and sump plug washer are renewed, and fuel, air and cabin filters are inspected and replaced where due. The refill is poured to the manufacturer-specified capacity, the engine started and idled to circulate, then the level rechecked. The multi-point inspection and scan follow. The service indicator is reset, the logbook is stamped, and a written report goes with the keys at pickup: what was done, anything needing attention now, and items to plan for the next interval.

What affects the cost

A service price depends on three main variables and we quote each one specifically:

  1. Oil: a long-life synthetic or low-SAPS diesel oil costs noticeably more than a basic semi-synthetic; engine capacity drives the litre count
  2. Service parts due: fuel filter, air filter, cabin filter, spark plugs, brake fluid and coolant all rotate at different intervals and are only done when due
  3. Inspection findings: worn brake pads, a leaking shock or a perished drive belt are quoted separately and only done with your approval

Combining the service with a WOF is genuinely cheaper than two separate visits because the inspection items overlap. For a quote, call (07) 847 3339 or use the contact form.

Hamilton and Waikato coverage

Our Frankton workshop is on Kahikatea Drive, three minutes from the Hamilton ring road, easy to reach from Hillcrest, Rototuna, Te Rapa, Chartwell, Glenview, Dinsdale and Nawton. Servicing customers also come from Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Tamahere, Morrinsville, Huntly, Ngaruawahia and out toward Raglan.

A large share of our work is repeat servicing for the same families and small-business fleets year after year. We know the vehicles, their history, and the right oil grade for each one without checking twice. Fleet servicing for Hamilton SMEs running utes and vans is straightforward to schedule across multiple vehicles. The workshop runs Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and we are WINZ-approved for written repair quotes.

FAQs

Common Questions

Everything you might want to know before booking.

What is the difference between an oil change and a full service?

An oil change only replaces the engine oil and oil filter. A full vehicle service does that plus the fuel filter, air filter and cabin filter where due, checks and tops every fluid, runs a multi-point inspection on the hoist covering brakes, suspension, steering, drive belt, exhaust, tyres and lights, and finishes with a full diagnostic scan. A lot of drivers confuse the two, an oil change is one task, a full service is the complete logbook job that actually keeps the vehicle reliable and the warranty valid.

How often should I service my car in New Zealand?

A full service every twelve months or 10,000 to 15,000 km is the standard guidance for most modern vehicles, whichever comes first. Older engines, diesels, and vehicles doing short stop-start trips or heavy towing should be on a shorter interval. New Zealand conditions, gravel roads, towing on motorways, salt air on coastal routes and dust on rural Waikato roads all push the interval shorter rather than longer. Your owner's manual gives the manufacturer-specified schedule and we can confirm the correct one for your vehicle when you book.

What is a logbook service and do you do them?

A logbook service follows the manufacturer's specified schedule for your exact vehicle, the items, fluids and check intervals required to keep the new-car warranty valid. We carry out logbook servicing for all common makes using manufacturer-spec oils and OEM-grade filters, then stamp the logbook so your warranty record stays complete. Bringing the vehicle to an MTA-aligned independent workshop instead of the dealer does not void the warranty as long as the service is done to specification.

Can you service a new vehicle without voiding the manufacturer warranty?

Yes. New Zealand law allows you to service a vehicle still under warranty at any qualified independent workshop, the warranty stays intact as long as the service follows the manufacturer schedule and uses oils and parts that meet the OEM specification. We carry out new-vehicle logbook servicing with the correct manufacturer-spec oils and OEM-grade service parts, complete every required item on the schedule, and stamp the logbook so your warranty cover is fully protected. You get the same warranty-compliant service as the dealer, done by qualified technicians.

What oils and parts keep my warranty valid?

Manufacturers require oils and service parts that meet their published specification, the correct viscosity, performance grade and any OEM approval, fitted at the schedule interval. Using an oil that does not meet spec, or skipping a scheduled item, can give the manufacturer grounds to decline a powertrain claim. We use manufacturer-spec oils and OEM-grade filters on every service, complete the full schedule, and record it in the logbook so your warranty record stays complete and defensible.

Why is fuel filter replacement part of a proper service?

The fuel filter protects the injection system from water and debris, and it has a defined replacement interval just like the oil filter. On a diesel, a blocked or saturated fuel filter starves the high-pressure pump and injectors, which are the most expensive parts on the engine to replace. A genuine full service inspects the fuel filter and replaces it when due, and drains the water trap on diesels. An oil change that ignores the fuel filter is not a complete service.

Do I need synthetic or mineral oil?

Almost every vehicle built in the last twenty years requires synthetic oil at a specific viscosity and performance grade, common modern specs are 0W-20, 5W-30 and 5W-40, often with OEM approvals like Toyota TGMO, Mazda Skyactiv or low-SAPS for DPF-equipped diesels. Mineral oil is reserved for older engines and specific industrial use. We stock the manufacturer-specified oil for your vehicle rather than substituting a generic grade.

How long does a full vehicle service take?

A full vehicle service with the filter changes, multi-point inspection and diagnostic scan usually takes two to three hours once the vehicle is on the hoist. Drop in the morning and the vehicle is normally ready by mid-afternoon. If you need a same-day turnaround, mention it when you book and we will fit it where possible. A combined service and WOF needs a longer slot, so book that ahead.

What happens if I keep skipping services?

Used oil thickens, loses its detergent additives and stops protecting the engine, while a neglected fuel filter starves the injection system and a clogged air filter chokes performance. The turbocharger bearings are usually the first to fail. Sludge then blocks the oil pickup screen and starves the engine, variable valve timing solenoids stick, and catalytic converters foul. The cost of an engine rebuild or a turbo replacement always dwarfs the cost of the missed services.

Can you do my service and WOF in the same visit?

Yes, and it is the most efficient way to handle both. Most of the inspection items on a full service overlap with the WOF check, tyres, brakes, suspension, steering, lights, wipers and exhaust, so combining the visit saves time and saves you a second trip across town. Book both together when you call and we will schedule them as one job.

What oil does my diesel need, especially with a DPF?

DPF-equipped diesels need a low-SAPS oil, low sulphated ash, phosphorus and sulphur, to protect the particulate filter from premature blockage. Common specs include ACEA C2, C3 and C4. Using a standard non-low-SAPS oil shortens DPF life significantly and can throw fault codes for differential pressure. We always check the manufacturer specification and use the correct DPF-compatible oil on every diesel service.

Should I service at the dealership or an independent workshop?

An MTA-aligned independent workshop using manufacturer-specified oils, OEM-grade filters and a stamped logbook keeps your warranty record valid and typically costs less than a dealer service. The work is done by qualified technicians using the same manufacturer specifications. We have serviced the same vehicles for the same Hamilton and Waikato owners for two decades, the continuity of one workshop that knows your vehicle has its own value.
