Why Nissan owners come to us

Photos from the floor on Kahikatea Drive. Same team, same hoists, same standards every job.

  • CVT shudder and hesitation Note, X-Trail, Qashqai and Dualis CVTs are prone to shudder and a delayed take-up as they age. We use the correct Nissan CVT fluid, run the proper learning procedure, and resolve most cases without a rebuild.
  • Navara YD25 timing chain rattle Older D40 Navara diesels with the YD25 engine are known for timing chain stretch, often heard as a rattle on cold start. We diagnose and quote replacement before it turns into engine damage.
  • Navara DPF and EGR soot build-up Short-trip Navara diesels block the DPF and carbon up the EGR. We confirm soot load, force a regeneration where suitable, and clean the EGR rather than just clearing the light.

Common Nissan issues we see

The patterns we have noticed across Hamilton Nissan owners, and how we handle them.

CVT shudder and hesitation

Note, X-Trail, Qashqai and Dualis CVTs are prone to shudder and a delayed take-up as they age. We use the correct Nissan CVT fluid, run the proper learning procedure, and resolve most cases without a rebuild.

Navara YD25 timing chain rattle

Older D40 Navara diesels with the YD25 engine are known for timing chain stretch, often heard as a rattle on cold start. We diagnose and quote replacement before it turns into engine damage.

Navara DPF and EGR soot build-up

Short-trip Navara diesels block the DPF and carbon up the EGR. We confirm soot load, force a regeneration where suitable, and clean the EGR rather than just clearing the light.

Air conditioning compressor and condenser failure

X-Trail and Navara AC systems develop refrigerant leaks and compressor faults. We pressure test and find the leak properly rather than just topping up the gas.

Suspension wear on fleet utes and vans

Navara and NV350 fleets work hard. We replace control arm bushings, shocks and stabiliser links to bring back ride quality and pass the WOF.

More about Nissan servicing in Hamilton

A workshop perspective on what's involved, how we run the job, and what shapes the final cost.

Why Hamilton Nissan owners come to Turbo & Diesel

A diesel Navara and a CVT-equipped X-Trail have little in common under the bonnet, and most general workshops are strong on one and weak on the other. We cover both properly. We are a CVT specialist, so the shudder and hesitation that worries Note and Qashqai owners gets fixed the right way, not patched. We are authorised Bosch agents, so Navara diesel injection is core work rather than something we send away.

Nissan servicing and repairs we handle

Most Nissan visits start with a scheduled service: oil and filter with Nissan-approved oil, a full brake and suspension inspection, cooling system check and a scan for stored fault codes.

CVT work (Note, X-Trail, Qashqai, Dualis, Serena):

  • Correct NS-2 or NS-3 fluid for your model, filter replaced where one is fitted
  • Transmission learning procedure completed so the gearbox adapts correctly afterwards. Skipping that procedure is why shudder returns straight away at other workshops

Navara diesel work (D40 YD25, NP300 YS23):

  • Injection diagnostics, injector and high-pressure pump work
  • Turbocharger testing on Garrett units
  • DPF regeneration and EGR carbon cleaning
  • YD25 timing chain stretch: monitored and caught before it becomes engine damage

Across every Nissan we handle brakes and ABS diagnostics, suspension and bushing replacement on hard-worked Navara and NV350 fleet vehicles, air conditioning leak detection and repair, cooling system work, pre-purchase inspections and WOF inspections.

How we service your Nissan

Call (07) 847 3339 or use the contact form. Tell us the model and what it is doing: a CVT shudder, a cold-start rattle on the Navara, or just a service due. On the day we start with a scan and a road test so we see the car behaving the way you described it. If we find something beyond the booked service, we call you with a clear explanation and a quote before any extra work goes ahead. The logbook is stamped and the car is road-tested again before you collect it.

What Nissan servicing costs

A standard service on a Pulsar is a smaller job than a CVT fluid service on an X-Trail or diesel injection work on a high-mileage Navara. Key factors:

  • Model, engine and service interval
  • Parts availability: common Nissan parts are well stocked
  • CVT work carries its own labour and parts considerations
  • Diagnostic time: a clear fault is quick; an intermittent problem takes longer

We quote every job specifically before we start. If a major repair is creating financial pressure we can provide a WINZ-approved written quote. Call (07) 847 3339 for a price on your Nissan.

Nissan servicing across Hamilton and the Waikato

Our workshop is on Kahikatea Drive in Frankton, minutes from the Hamilton ring road. Nissan owners come to us from across the Waikato:

  • X-Trail and Qashqai families from Cambridge and Te Awamutu
  • Navara and NV350 fleet utes from Morrinsville and Huntly
  • Note and Pulsar commuters from Ngaruawahia and drivers heading in from Raglan

We are open Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

FAQs

Common Questions

Everything you might want to know before booking.

Can you service a Nissan CVT?

Yes, and it matters that it is done properly. The wrong fluid or skipping the relearn procedure is what causes shudder and early failure. We use the correct Nissan NS-2 or NS-3 CVT fluid for your model, change the filter where fitted, and run the transmission learning procedure so the gearbox adapts correctly afterwards.

What are the signs of a failing Nissan CVT?

Watch for a shudder or vibration when pulling away from a stop, a delay before the car moves when you press the accelerator, a whining or droning noise that rises with road speed, slipping under load, or a transmission warning light. Bring it in early. A fluid service and relearn often fixes shudder before damage sets in.

How often should the CVT fluid be changed?

We recommend a Nissan CVT fluid service around every 60,000 km, sooner if the car tows, sits in heavy traffic or is used hard. Many CVTs are marketed as sealed for life, but in practice the fluid breaks down with heat and regular changes are the cheapest insurance against a rebuild.

Do you work on Navara diesels?

Yes. Older D40 Navara with the YD25 engine and newer NP300 Navara with the YS23 engine are regular visitors. We hold authorised Bosch training for the diesel injection side, plus Garrett for the turbocharger, so the whole driveline is covered in one workshop.

Does servicing my Nissan outside the dealer void the warranty?

No. Under New Zealand consumer law you can have your Nissan serviced at any qualified workshop without losing your statutory rights. We service to the manufacturer schedule, use approved oils and parts, and stamp your logbook, so your service history stays complete and your warranty stays intact.

How often should I service my Nissan?

Most Nissan petrol and diesel models are due every 10,000 to 15,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. Navara diesels worked hard or driven mostly on short trips benefit from more frequent oil changes. We will confirm the right interval for your specific model and how you use it.

What is the most common Navara problem?

On older D40 YD25 Navara, timing chain stretch is the one to watch, often a rattle on cold start. Across the diesel range, blocked DPFs and carboned EGR valves from short-trip driving are common. We diagnose the actual cause rather than guessing, and quote before any work goes ahead.

How long does a Nissan service take?

A standard Nissan service usually takes two to four hours. A CVT fluid service or a Leaf battery health check adds an hour or two. Larger diesel injection or transmission work takes longer, and we confirm timing once we have inspected your vehicle. Call ahead and we will book a slot that suits.

Do you offer WINZ-approved quotes?

Yes. Turbo & Diesel is a WINZ-approved workshop. If a major Nissan repair is creating financial pressure we can provide a formal written quote you can submit to Work and Income. Call (07) 847 3339 and we will put the quote together with you.

Where are you based?

Turbo & Diesel is at 281 Kahikatea Drive, Frankton, Hamilton, open Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. We are minutes from the Hamilton ring road and welcome Nissan owners from across the city and the wider Waikato.
