Workshop Foreman

Location: Hamilton, Waikato  ·  Type: Full time, permanent  ·  Benefits: Modern workshop, ongoing training, excellent pay

Turbo & Diesel is one of the Waikato's leading independent automotive workshops, specialising in diesel, petrol, hybrid, 4WD, light and medium commercial and performance vehicles. We're growing fast and looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman who leads by example and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.

This is not an office-based management role. You'll spend the majority of your day on the tools, supporting our Workshop Manager, solving the complex technical problems, holding the quality standard and keeping the workshop moving.

If you're the person everyone turns to when a difficult diagnostic comes through the door, we'd like to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

  • Servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs across petrol, diesel, hybrid and commercial vehicles
  • Advanced diagnostics and fault finding on the jobs the team can't crack
  • Engine, transmission, steering, suspension and brake repairs
  • Timing belt and chain replacements
  • Auto electrical and electronic fault diagnosis
  • Cooling system, air conditioning and fuel system repairs
  • Pre-Warrant of Fitness inspections and repair work
  • Test driving to confirm faults and verify repairs
  • Allocating jobs to suit each technician's strengths and keeping workflow moving
  • Final quality checks before vehicles go back to customers
  • Mentoring technicians and apprentices through hands-on training
  • Keeping the workshop safe, tidy and compliant with NZ Health & Safety requirements

What we're looking for

  • Recognised automotive trade qualification: NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as a qualified Automotive Technician
  • Minimum 2 years leading or mentoring workshop staff
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across petrol and diesel
  • Confident with modern scan tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Full New Zealand Driver Licence
  • A current WOF Authority would be a huge advantage, but is not essential

The person

You take pride in your workmanship, you lead from the floor rather than the office, you enjoy bringing apprentices up, and you keep your head when the workshop is under pressure. You're organised, reliable and professional, and you want to help build one of Hamilton's best independent workshops.

What we offer

  • Excellent remuneration based on experience
  • Modern workshop with quality equipment and diagnostic tools
  • Supportive management and a great team culture
  • Ongoing training and career development
  • Long-term opportunity with a growing business
  • Genuine influence over how the workshop operates

If you're an experienced technician ready to step into a senior leadership role while still doing what you enjoy most, working on vehicles, apply now with your CV and a brief cover letter telling us why you're the right fit for Turbo & Diesel. Use the form below or email workshop@turbodiesel.co.nz.

Only applicants with the legal right to work in New Zealand will be considered.
